International Clematis Society Public Webinar (Zoom) - A Key to the Classification of Clematis Cultivar Groups

  • Rogerson Clematis Garden 125 Rosemont Road West Linn, OR, 97068 United States (map)

Wim Snoeijer from The Netherlands will do a presentation about Clematis Cultivar Groups. There have been many classifications proposed and published since the book The Clematis as a Garden Flower by Moore & Jackman in 1872. Wim will briefly address the history of classification for clarity. The main focus of his talk is to explain the Clematis Cultivar Groups that he developed and applied throughout his Clematis career, using the key he created. Wim suggests that the two-page key would be useful for attendees to have on hand during the lecture. It can be downloaded at:

.

Wim’s 35 years of experience in breeding clematis began in Boskoop using the clematis collection of Jan Fopma and continued while he was working as a clematis breeder at J. van Zoest B.V. nursery. Through crossbreeding clematis, he learned the relationships between plants and between groups of related plants and developed his Clematis Cultivar Group Classification system.
