Celebrating the 20th birthday of the Rogerson Clematis Garden on Saturday, June 14, with a day-long event featuring a Plant Nerd Breakfast with garden guru Mike Darcy, workshops, plant sales, a silent auction, and a book sale.
The day ends with a cake and ice cream party hosted by Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation!
PLANT NERD BREAKFAST (sold out)
8:30-10:00am (Milking Parlor)
Buffet with alcohol-free mimosas. Mike Darcy serves as the MC for a “plant fashion show” featuring plants from guest vendors Lux Perennials, Gossler Farms Nursery, Stafford Ridge Nursery, and Van Hevelingen Herbs & Plants. Nursery representatives will talk about some of their favorites, and will have plants for sale throughout the day in the Beech Tree Garden.

Japanese Hybrids at the Rogerson Clematis Garden and their History with Maurice Horn, clematis expert and former owner of Joy Creek Nursery. Maurice will talk about the clematis species and hybrids from Japan, many of which have influenced the way we look at clematis ‒ and how we use them in the garden and as cut flowers. He will introduce a handful of significant hybridizers from Japan and place their creations in historic context. His talk will be illustrated with cut flower specimens, followed by a tour of the Japanese clematis growing in the Garden.
Noon: Catered lunch in the Milking Parlor
1:00-1:45 pm (Milking Parlor)
Easy Irrigation for Containers with Kym Pokorny, former garden writer for The Oregonian. Kym will present the ins-and-outs of drip irrigation for containers and demonstrate how to put one together. Participants will leave with a good understanding of the tools, materials, and basic techniques.
2:00-2:45 pm (Milking Parlor/Beech Tree Garden)
Making Bamboo Structures for Clematis in Containers with Linda Beutler, curator of the Rogerson Clematis Collection. Linda will give two demonstrations on technique and participants will go home with a kit of pre-cut bamboo and twine to make their own structure.
